Some of the market tools I experienced were: Asana, Trello, Jira, Loop, Clickup, microsoft excel The secret is to minimize the usage of many tools and select the one that will change less the participants life - Managing a project/process can never be harder than executing it!

There are three aspects of collaboration to consider in remote and global teams - collaboration across remote team members, collaboration across time zones and collaboration across languages. Appropriate technologies are required for each of these. Emails and chats are the most basic communication tools enabling offline and real time communication. Tools such as Team calendar, SharePoint, Drive, etc. enable a common view of targets, events, work products and deliverables. Translation tools facilitate sharing information across language divides. Video conference tools support collaboration across locations. Recording with closed captions makes the information available for team members in other time zones and speaking different languages.

Utilize communication technologies tailored to remote work, like video conferencing platforms and collaboration tools. For instance, in my telecom team, we use Microsoft Teams for daily check-ins and project updates, ensuring real-time communication despite geographical distances.

Despite all my latest projects having team members dispersed across the US & Europe, effective communication has been successful. At the heart of this success is a must-have plan for any project: The Comms Plan, as I call it. It is robust, but not overly complex. It contains the communications roadmap, the operating rhythm, the "who is who," and, what is communicated, when, where, by whom, and how. Lastly, walk to talk for a physical meeting to normalize high expectations and constraints.

Setting expectations for the following helps a structured target oriented task completion and monitoring: - Task timelines for the short term (daily), medium term (week) and longer term (Program /Program Increment) - Accountability and responsibilities for the different tasks - Prioritization of tasks - Collaboration model including rotating responsibilities for setting up meetings, driving meeting agenda, publishing minutes and assigning follow up actions - Reporting structure, formats and timelines

Clearly define communication norms, response times, and meeting schedules to align remote team members. For instance, establish guidelines for email response times and availability on communication channels, fostering consistency and minimizing misunderstandings.

It can be a case that certain team members do not participate in the discussions because they lack knowledge of the topic. In such a case, ensure that the project or program is thoroughly documented and available for reading to everyone on the team. I'm currently managing a team of three project managers across my program - with all four of us in different locations.
